Unique things to do in Wilmington, NC

Updated: Jun 26

Most people who come to Wilmington immediately think of the beach. Our beaches nearby ARE beautiful, but there is so much more to do! Wilmington offers unique and memorable experiences for locals and visitors alike. Whether you are a local to Wilmington looking for something new to do, or a visitor planning your trip, this guide is for you.

Oyster Tour

One of my favorite experiences in the area is an oyster tour with Ghost Fleet Oyster! Eating fresh oysters on a boat at sunset while learning about our local marine life.. it doesn't get much better than that! Great for all ages and fun for even those who don't eat oysters. Watch more here.

Cooking Class

Expand your culinary skills with La Mar Salada! We loved their Paella Cooking class. They get everyone involved and you are guaranteed to leave with new skills, new friends, and full belly. Checkout our experience!

Pottery Class

Bookworm pottery is my go to for all things pottery. I've done so many classes with them: date night, privates, and multiple week courses. I really like to book private classes when I have family or friends visiting! more about our date night here!

Axe Throwing

An absolute classic. Who doesn't love throwing sharp objects? Plus a bar? You can find me at Axes and Allies! Another spot I love to take visitors.

Mini Golf

A great experience for ALL ages! The only option within Wilmington is Jungle Rapids. Carolina Beach opened a new one with a bar we can't wait to check out called Putter Pub

Ghost Tour

With all the history Wilmington has to offer, no wonder ghost tours are so popular (and fun)! Haunted Wilmington has options for different folks, we personally loved the pub crawl.

Fort Fisher Aquarium

I don't care how old you are, the Fort Fisher Aquarium is FUN! We've gone so many times and I still love it. We even did a date day, check it out.

Fishing Charter

The fishing is great in Wilmington, but it is even better when you have a guide like Pierre with Rising Sun who has a boat and knows the best spots around.

Food Tour

There is so many great foodie spots in Wilmington! Take a tour with Taste Carolina to make the most of our culinary downtown and learn a little along the way.

Backyard Movie and Picnic

Another activity I love to do when people visit! Backyard Blockbuster will come to your house or rental to set up an awesome backyard movie of your choice. There are add ons like picnics, popcorn, s'mores, etc. Check out our experience here!

Surf Lessons

You can't come to Wilmington without trying surfing at least once. I recommend taking a lesson with Topsail Surf Adventures.

Sailing

If fishing isn't your thing, you can still get out on the water and go sailing with Soundside! They even have sunset tours.

Coffee Cupping

A super unique experience for coffee lovers is a coffee cupping experience with Maven Coffee. Explore your senses and taste some of the greatest coffee! Check out our experience.

Jewelry Making

Making jewelry is a lot harder than it looks, but Urban Wave is a great teacher. You will leave with your own customized piece of beachy jewelry. Watch more here!

S'mores and Espresso Martini Flights

Concorde Espresso has been viral multiple times because of their s'mores kits and espresso martini flights. Make a reservation by one of their fire pits to enjoy! Watch my video here.

Venus Flytraps

That's right, you can see real life Venus flytraps in Wilmington. You can see Venus Flytraps for FREE at Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden at Piney Ridge Nature Preserve.

Salt Cave

Take a load off and relax at my favorite salt cave in Wilmington, Prana Salt Cave. You can get a massage or just book a private session to enjoy the salt cave and all the health benefits!

Walk the loop

Totally free and a great way to get outside and see Wrightsville beach! Park at the WB park (321 Causeway Dr, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480) and get 2 hours of free parking. I love timing it around sunset.

Take a day trip

Sometimes all I want to do in Wilmington… is get OUT of Wilmington! I love taking a day trip to Topsail/Surf City. This is a great beach to look for sharks teeth!

Trask Farms

This is a super cute locally owned farm with tons of seasonal activities. Flower picking, ice cream, hay rides, etc! See their website for current events.
